Short-term rental regulations

The City of Richardson requires STRs to register. The annual registration includes a non-refundable registration fee of $75 which is due at the beginning of each calendar year. 

As part of the registration process, Hosts must:

• Provide a list of all owners, operators, and agents including their addresses, e-mail addresses, and current phone numbers.
  • This includes partnership information and corporation information if applicable.
• Provide a 24-hour emergency contact.

In addition, the City requires Hosts to post the following information:

  • Noise ordinances
    • Examples include noise that interferes with public peace and comfort: Loud music, televisions, animals, horns, etc.
  • Parking ordinances
    • Examples include yard parking, overnight on street parking, parking which causes safety issues, etc.
  • Trash ordinances
    • Examples include specific trash and recycling schedules for the STR’s specific address and prohibition of litter.
  • Emergency and non-emergency contact information for police, fire, and medical services
  • Instructions for obtaining information about natural or manmade disasters

• Required Safety Information
  • Owner and agent name and contact information
  • 24-hour emergency contact
  • Floor plan of evacuation routes and exits
  • Location of fire extinguishers and alarms

Payment

There is a $75 non-refundable annual fee for each property.

Renewals

Renewals take place at the beginning of each calendar year. (i.e.; January 1st).

Other contracts and rules 

It's also important to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, such as leases, condo board or co-op rules, HOA rules, or rules established by tenant organizations. Please read your lease agreement and check with your landlord if applicable.
